Drone repairing and maintenance - II

Motor Issues

Check Physical Damage

Steps

  • Disconnect the drone from the power source by unplugging the dean plug.
  • Disconnect the motor from the ESC by detaching the yellow, black, and red wires one by one from the motor arm.
  • Set the multimeter to continuity mode by turning the knob to the appropriate setting.
  • Connect the red probe to the yellow wire and the black probe to the black wire — a beep sound confirms continuity.
  • Connect the black probe to the red wire and the red probe to the black wire — a beep sound confirms continuity.
  • If all phases produce a beep, the motor has no physical damage. If no beep, the motor needs to be replaced.
  • Reattach all motor wires to the ESC and turn off the multimeter.

Check Connections

Steps

  • Disconnect the drone from the power source by unplugging the dean plug.
  • Click on the frame arm to zoom in and flip it to make connections visible.
  • Check that all three motor wires (yellow, black, red) are properly connected to the ESC's socket.
  • If the yellow wire is disconnected, reconnect it to the ESC's socket as shown in the reference video.
  • Similarly check and reconnect wires for all remaining motors.

ESC Issues

Check Physical Damage

Steps

  • Disconnect the drone from the power source by unplugging the dean plug.
  • Zoom in on the frame arm to view the front and back of the ESC.
  • Reconnect the battery and listen for a beep sound — a beep confirms no physical damage in the ESC.
  • If no beep is heard, manually inspect the ESC for visible damage.
  • Check the capacitor inside the ESC — if it is burnt or damaged, replace the ESC with a new one as shown in the reference video.
  • Similarly check all remaining ESCs.

Check Connections

Steps

  • Disconnect the drone from the power source by unplugging the dean plug.
  • Remove the GPS, battery, and upper plate to access the ESC wiring.
  • Zoom in on the ESC connection area and verify that all ESC wires are properly connected to the center plate with no looseness.
  • If any wire is loose or disconnected, resolder it back to the center plate as shown in the reference video.
  • Similarly check and resolder connections for all remaining ESCs.
